Program Value Proposition

If you are working on an exciting early stage project and looking for funding to generate a compelling proof-of-concept data package, this is the scheme for you. There is up to €500,000 per company available from BSCB’s Butterfly Fund plus non-dilutive financing for three successful applicants. Access to a wealth of expertise from cell and gene therapy organisations will help you create strong business and development plans.

The cell and gene therapy accelerator is part of BSCB’s Incubator which has played a role in the formation of 40+ companies, creating 1000+ jobs, and raising over €1,5 billion.

Selected as European cell and gene therapy headquarters by global CMOs such as Catalent, ThermoFisher Scientific and Exothera, Brussels South Charleroi BioPark accounts for 20% of the European cell and gene therapy manufacturing capacity with a vibrant innovation pipeline. Criteria for entry

You should be a highly motivated and resilient individual or team, working on a compelling academic or independent cell and gene therapy research project. You should detail your differentiated approach, preliminary data, support from the literature and area of urgent unmet medical need on the application form here (non-confidential data only at this stage). This should form an exciting story with clear potential patient benefit and a strong case for further development and funding.

Selected longlisted projects

Advisory panel makes initial preselection (Up to 10 projects)
Plan and budget development for selected shortlisted projects

Two-day bootcamp for selected shortlisted projects (week of September 20), with final pitch to Butterfly Fund
12-18 month program for successful companies

From October 2021, access to business development training modules, experts from partnering organisations, ULB Open BioLab , regulators and a clinical trial network
Strong proof-of-concept data package & pitch to selected investors

De-risked proposition ready for the next stage of financing - kick-off with opportunity to pitch to our partner VCs and selected potential co-investors
